Lt. Governor Bysiewicz, Senator Lesser, and Mayor Florsheim Visit Project SEARCH Interns

Today Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz, Senator Matt Lesser, Mayor Ben Florsheim, and CT Dept. of Developmental Services visited past and present Project SEARCH interns.  During their visit to our host site, Middlesex Health, they congratulated last year’s graduates for receiving employee contracts with Middlesex Health.

They also visited this year’s interns in their departments where they learned more about the transferable skills they were mastering during this rotation.  Interns are currently working in Central Sterile, Pharmacy, Mail Room, Engineering, Food Services, and the Center for Professional Development.

Project SEARCH is a Transition-to-Work skill training program for young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.  This unique program takes place is business led and takes place entirely at the workplace.  This yearlong program provides skills training and exploration, innovative adaptations, long-term job coaching, and continuous feedback from teachers, skills trainers, and employers.
